Hack the Space was a groundbreaking 24-hour hackathon held in the iconic Turbine Hall of Tate Modern. The event marked the re-launch of The Space—an innovative platform created by the BBC and Arts Council to commission and showcase digital artworks at the intersection of art, culture, and technology. Originally piloted in 2012, the platform aimed to redefine how audiences engage with digital creativity.

I was honoured to be invited to this extraordinary event. Collaborating with fellow artist Chris Hunt, we spent the night in the legendary Turbine Hall, surrounded by the hum of creativity and innovation. Together, we developed a unique interactive dual-narrative prototype titled ‘2008 05 12 06:28:01 UTC’, inspired by the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.

The concept allowed users to control two characters simultaneously, with every command being executed in both narratives. This mirrored experience created deeply engaging and thought-provoking decision-making moments, challenging users to navigate the delicate interplay of parallel stories.

Sleeping in such an iconic space, immersed in collaboration and inspiration, made this event an unforgettable and transformative experience.
