Bringing Nottingham’s Stories to Life

I had the privilege of working on Words on Your Street, a community-driven creative writing project that gave a voice to Nottingham’s everyday stories. Led by Gareth P. Dicks, the initiative aimed to uncover the narratives hidden in the streets we walk every day, using poetry, prose, and spoken word to connect people with their city in new ways.
As a writer involved in the project, I was part of a movement that sought to make literature accessible beyond traditional spaces. The project wasn’t just about writing it was about giving a platform to authentic voices, capturing the spirit of Nottingham through the words of those who live and breathe it.
Words on Your Street was about more than storytelling; it was an act of reclaiming public space through language. It took literature beyond bookshelves and into the real world, reminding us that every street has a story, and every person has a voice worth hearing.
Looking back, this project still stands as an example of how creativity can transform communities, making art and literature something truly alive and interactive.
